Welcome to the bulk food market news update. The December crop report did not provide a boost to the wheat market. Wheat is still looking to carve out a bottom. The wheat price tends to firm in December going into the January crop report.  Similarly, the corn market is struggling to sustain any rally with the large harvest this fall. After years of making large profits, corn farmers expanded their storage capacity by 10% over the past five years. The increased storage capacity has provided a support to prices. With over 13 billion bushels in storage capacity, farmers have the capability to store this years harvest for the time being. Generally, farmers look to sell a good portion of their storage crop in the spring before temperatures rise. As temperatures rise, the probability of spoilage increases, causing farmers to be cautious with storing the crop for too long.
